Summary of the Position: The School Nurse is a certified healthcare provider whose main role is to provide medical care when needed for the students during the school day. Using clinical experience and sound medical judgment, the School Nurse responds to all medical emergencies; provides basic first aid, health assessments and consultations to students and staff who are injured or sick during the school day; performs routine health screenings; communicates with parents/teachers/staff when needed; assists with coordinating care and referrals to local health care providers as needed. Administrative duties entail collecting, maintaining medical documents; routinely assessing and evaluating data; documenting daily visits; keeping the school community up-to-date with any health and safety issues. The School Nurse provides expertise and oversight for the provision of school health services and promotion of health education. The School Nurse collaborates with teachers, School Counselors, Learning Support team, Leadership Team (LT) and serves as a liaison between child and local authorities when needed. The School Nurse is a collaborative member of the Child Safeguarding team, Health and Safety team, and Crisis Response team.
Additional requirements:
- Nursing degree (or other higher health care degree) from a certified program, which is recognized in Latvia.
- First Aid and Basic Life Support/CPR/AED certification with ability to respond to medical emergencies.,
- Previous nursing experience, preferably in a school environment, preferred. Will consider new graduates.
- Familiarity with school nurse processes, including health assessments, creating diagnostic plans, implementing and evaluating care for students.
- Good understanding of the physical and emotional development of students aged 2 -18.
- Knowledge of special education needs and promoting preventive health education recommended.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be able to converse in English; Latvian and Russian languages are a plus.
- Must align with the schools core values in providing an inclusive, non-judgmental and safe environment for students.
- Must respect a persons right to confidentiality and follow our schools policies on child safeguarding and GDPR laws.
- Must maintain up-to-date professional qualification, certifications/recertifications in accordance with the school and local law requirements.
