Job Description

Our client, a emerging genetic analysis laboratory offering advanced genetic testing services to support curiosity, ancestry and wellness needs, is seeking a proactive and versatile Laboratory Manager to oversee the initial set-up and ongoing operations of an NGS-focused genetic analysis laboratory. This position is critical during the foundational phase of the laboratory, involving tasks from procurement of reagents and inventory management to hands-on genetic analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the setup of the laboratory, including the procurement of necessary reagents, equipment, and other supplies essential for operations.
  • Manage inventory and ensure a reliable supply chain for all laboratory consumables, minimizing downtime and ensuring the lab operates efficiently.
  • Perform genetic analyses using NGS technologies, maintaining high standards of quality control.
  • Develop and implement operational protocols to ensure efficient workflow and optimal use of resources.
  • Monitor equipment to ensure it is in good working condition, scheduling regular maintenance and calibrations as needed.
  • Plan for future growth, including the recruitment and training of laboratory personnel to expand operational capacity.
  • Establish a culture of continuous improvement, staying updated with advancements in NGS technologies and operational best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a high-throughput genetic testing or clinical diagnostics laboratory.
  • Experience in regulatory compliance and quality assurance in a laboratory setting.
  • Deep understanding of NGS platforms and processes, especially sample preparation.
  • Strong operational management skills, with a proven track record in streamlining workflows for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and projects.
  • Practical experience in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is advantageous.
