🟢 About Mapon
Mapon, a part of Draugiem Group, is a fast-growing SaaS company and a leading provider of telematics and fleet management solutions in Europe. We empower thousands of companies across the continent with advanced GPS tracking, video telematics, and fleet management systems.
With operations in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Spain and Ireland, Mapon is driving the evolution of smart mobility — helping businesses operate more efficiently, safely, and sustainably.
We are currently seeking an experienced Tech Lead to join our Tachogram team and lead the development of both existing and new product solutions focused on tachograph data processing, regulatory compliance, and transport analytics.
🚀 The team:
This position is for our Tachogram product team, focused on developing and enhancing solutions for tachograph data processing, regulatory compliance, and transport analytics. You will lead developers (Back-end, Front-end, and QA) and work closely with the Product Manager to implement, develop, and maintain solutions that deliver measurable value to our clients.
We are looking for an engineering leader who combines hands-on technical expertise with strong people leadership — someone who can guide the team toward technical excellence, predictable delivery, and sustainable growth, while building a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
🧩 You will be responsible for:
Delivery & execution
- Own the engineering & delivery aspects— sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint goals, and the full lifecycle from planning through release and maintenance, aligned with Product Manager priorities
- Keep delivery predictable through effective processes and a healthy balance between business projects, internal improvements, and operational work
- Stay on top of timelines, scope, and milestones — flag risks early and keep stakeholders in the loop
Technical leadership & architecture
- Shape and maintain the team's technical direction, architecture, and long-term roadmap, keeping it aligned with where the business and product are heading
- Lead solution design and architectural decisions — covering non-functional requirements, risks, and trade-offs — and make sure the important ones are documented
- Spot technical debt and improvement opportunities, then prioritize and drive initiatives that make the team faster, the product better, and developers happier
- Champion modern tooling, AI-assisted development, QA automation, and observability (Sentry, Grafana, Prometheus)
Team leadership & people development
- Build a team culture where people feel safe to speak up, take ownership, collaborate, and keep learning — while keeping workloads sustainable
- Help your team grow through regular 1:1s, development plans, coaching, mentoring, and honest, constructive feedback
- Make sure everyone has the context they need — goals, priorities, roadmap, OKRs — so the team can make good decisions autonomously
- Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and bi-annual performance reviews
Strategic & business alignment
- Be a true partner to the Product Manager — co-create roadmaps, advocate for technical initiatives, and connect technical decisions to business outcomes
- Ensure engineering work ties back to company, department, and team OKRs, and communicate those goals clearly to the team
- Drive continuous improvement through retrospectives, metrics, identifying bottlenecks, and making decisions grounded in data
- Keep the team's knowledge base honest and up to date — technical designs, decision logs, and processes should be reliable and accessible
🎯 We expect from you:
- Previous experience as a Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, Technical product owner or equivalent role that combined technical leadership with team and people management
- Proficiency in programming, preferably web development (PHP, MySQL/MariaDB), and extensive familiarity with associated technologies: Docker, Redis, Git, CI/CD, automated testing, caching, metrics, and monitoring
- In-depth knowledge of solution architecture (principles, patterns, and trade-offs), design patterns, clean code principles, and development best practices
- Understanding of non-functional requirements: maintainability, scalability, reliability, security, performance, and availability
- Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives
- Proven experience in people leadership: conducting 1:1s, giving feedback, mentoring engineers, and fostering team development
- Ability to translate technical decisions and initiatives into business value, and to collaborate with the Product Manager as a strategic partner
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines and teams
- Excellent English language skills (as the company is international, it's needed to communicate between our branches)
- Commitment to continuous learning and improvement, including championing for use of AI tools to enhance productivity while maintaining quality and security standards
- A positive mindset, initiative, product-oriented thinking, and high standards for yourself and your team
- Experience with large-scale, real-time, or data-intensive systems is a strong plus
💻Tech stack:
- For Back-End development we primarily use PHP (8.2+) with Laravel 12
- We extensively use asynchronous processing and event-driven approaches for handling high-load tasks
- We are extensively using various AI tools (Claude code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, etc.) for development
- For frontend development we use React framework
- We use MariaDB (SQL) for primary data storage
- We use Sentry, Grafana & Prometheus combo, CloudWatch for monitoring our solution application performance (APM)
- We use Git for version control and GitLab for hosting code repositories
- We use GitLab CI pipelines for automating various tasks
- Docker is used for development and test environments
- We use AWS (including Lambda) for selected services and integrations
- We are open for experiments with new technologies and tools, we always aim to choose the best tool for reaching our goals
