Role description

We are looking for an experienced, English-speaking Managing Director, as English will be the Company’s working language and the language used in the day-to-day working environment. The position will initially be part-time (0.5 FTE), with a transition to a full-time role.

The Managing Director will be responsible for managing the Latvian-licensed company and will serve as one of the primary management counterparts to Latvijas Banka.

The role is combined with a position on the Management Board of the Company and is accountable for the delivery of payment services and the issuance of electronic money under the terms of the EMI licence held by the Company.

This is a senior operational leadership role focused on building and running the regulated entity in Latvia, including responsibility for its governance, people and day-to-day operations. The role does not include commercial sales or account management functions, which are managed separately across the wider organisation.

Responsibilities

Regulatory and governance

Ensure the sound, prudent and effective management of the Company in accordance with its business strategy and applicable regulatory requirements
Act as the person responsible for the provision of payment services and the issuance of electronic money for the purposes of the Company’s authorisation
Represent the Company before Latvijas Banka, other public authorities, banks, business partners, service providers and other third parties
Ensure the effective functioning of the Company’s governance, risk management, compliance and internal control framework
Oversee safeguarding arrangements, key operational risks and material outsourced functions

Operations

Lead the day-to-day operations of the Latvian entity: payment operations, merchant onboarding, and first and second line support
Ensure the Company maintains sufficient financial, personnel, organisational and technical resources for its regulated activities
Supervise key function holders and external service providers, with a clear allocation of responsibilities across the organisation

People and entity

Oversee recruitment, employment contracts, payroll, onboarding, performance and then employee handbook
Establish and lead the Latvian team, defining its structure and ways of working from the outset
Oversee daily operations, including office management, accounting and payroll providers, statutory filings, and local administration

As a member of the management board

Participate in decisions concerning the Company’s strategy, financial position, safeguarding arrangements, internal control framework, regulatory compliance, outsourcing, operational risks, staffing, technical resources and business continuity
Act with due professional care, integrity, loyalty and independent judgement in the interests of the Company

What we expect

Higher education in finance, economics, law, business administration or another relevant field
At least three years of relevant professional experience in financial services, payments, banking, fintech or another regulated business
Competence and practical experience in financial and business management
A good understanding of electronic money, payment services, safeguarding, regulatory compliance, risk management and internal controls
Experience managing or overseeing teams, key functions or external service providers
An impeccable professional reputation and no circumstances that could negatively affect your fitness and propriety
Strong communication and leadership skills
Proficiency in Latvian and English
The ability to dedicate sufficient time to the Company’s management and regulatory responsibilities
Integrity, sound judgement, and readiness to represent the Company before Latvijas Banka and other external parties

NivoBnK is an AI-first European payments company being built in Riga, Latvia, backed by the people behind some of the Nordics' best known fintech names.

We are applying for an Electronic Money Institution licence in Latvia and building two product lines. The first is core banking for merchants - IBAN accounts, payments in and out, and virtual cards. The second is account-to-account payments, where the merchant is our customer and their shoppers pay directly from their own bank account. Our merchant base includes online gaming operators, so this is a high-risk environment run to high standards.

As part of our development into operating an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) in Latvia we will be developing a strong and experienced Management Team based in Riga that is accountable for the Regulated Business and the day to day operational aspects of it.

Therefore, we are seeking highly experienced Senior Professionals, who are able to assume full accountability for Key Management & Control Functions within the Regulated Business, who will also work closely with the Board and the broader European Teams to ensure Authorisation and subsequent Growth of the business.
