Senior AML/Compliance Officer

PAYBIS Ltd. Latvijas filiāle

About the role

As a Senior AML / Compliance Officer at Paybis, you will work at the heart of our regulatory expansion — drafting regulator-ready policies, frameworks, and application materials, and supporting the group's AML/CFT and sanctions compliance obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
You'll report directly to the Global Chief of Compliance and work daily with Compliance and AML colleagues, and regularly with Legal, Product, Operations, Finance, Risk, and Information Security — as well as external counsel and licensing consultants.
The core of your work is high-quality regulatory drafting and analysis: policies, risk assessments, governance documents, application narratives, and responses to regulators — written independently and defensible under regulatory challenge.
If you thrive on turning complex regulatory requirements into precise, implementable documentation, work autonomously, and want your work to land directly on a regulator's desk — this role is for you.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Support the delivery of Paybis's AML/CFT, sanctions, and regulatory compliance obligations across the group and its regulated entities
  • Draft, review, and maintain internal policies, procedures, methodologies, risk assessments, control descriptions, and governance documents
  • Contribute to licence applications and regulatory projects: programmes of operations, business plans, AML/CFT frameworks, safeguarding descriptions, and other application materials
  • Prepare and coordinate responses to regulatory RFIs and comments from external counsel, consultants, and supervisory authorities
  • Provide compliance advice on new products, partners, jurisdictions, outsourcing arrangements, and changes to business models
  • Review and advise on complex AML, sanctions, CDD/KYB, and transaction-monitoring escalations
  • Monitor regulatory developments, assess their impact on Paybis, and translate new requirements into practical changes to policies, processes, and controls
  • Conduct compliance gap analyses, thematic reviews, and risk assessments, and coordinate remediation
  • Support regulatory reporting, notifications, audits, and inspections
  • Track the implementation of regulatory commitments and verify that approved policies and controls operate in practice
  • Provide compliance guidance and training to the business where required

What We're Looking For

Must have:
  • 5+ years of AML, financial-crime, or regulatory compliance experience, including 3+ years in regulated payments, e-money, cryptoasset, or a closely comparable fintech environment
  • Hands-on knowledge of at least one relevant authorisation framework: UK EMI/payment services, UK MLR cryptoasset registration, EEA EMI/PI, MiCA/CASP, or Jersey VASP
  • Proven ability to independently author substantive regulatory documents — policies, frameworks, risk assessments, application materials — this is your core deliverable
  • Ability to navigate primary legislation and regulatory guidance independently
  • Working knowledge of AMLD/FATF standards, sanctions, outsourcing, and governance requirements
  • Practical understanding of how transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, blockchain analytics, and case-management controls are designed and evidenced — experience with tools such as Sumsub, ComplyAdvantage, Scorechain, Fireblocks, or equivalent
  • Strong analytical thinking: gap analysis, requirement mapping, evidence management
  • Sound judgement: able to distinguish mandatory requirements, risk appetite, and matters requiring legal advice
  • High autonomy — identifies missing facts, proposes a route, and closes actions without micromanagement
  • Comfortable with speed, ambiguity, and parallel workstreams under a high evidentiary standard
  • Fluent professional English, including excellent written drafting
  • Ability to work within European business hours (minimum four-hour overlap) and travel occasionally to Riga if required
Nice to have:
  • Hands-on involvement in preparing an EEA/UK or comparable regulatory application through submission, RFI, and decision stages
  • Experience supporting ongoing compliance within an authorised EMI, PI, CASP, VASP, or other regulated financial institution
  • Experience drafting business-wide risk assessments, customer risk methodologies, safeguarding frameworks, and outsourcing documentation
  • Experience managing regulatory RFIs, audits, inspections, and application trackers
  • Experience in a business combining cryptoasset and payment services across both B2C and B2B products
  • Background in a regulator, specialist regulatory consultancy, or law firm, combined with in-house implementation experience
  • Knowledge of DORA, operational resilience, data protection, and safeguarding requirements
  • CAMS, ICA, CGSS, or a comparable qualification (proven drafting quality and successful authorisation work carry greater weight than certification alone)
  • Degree in law, finance, economics, or risk/compliance (equivalent professional experience also accepted)

What We Offer

  • Remote-first with high autonomy and minimal micromanagement
  • Direct collaboration with the Global Chief of Compliance and senior leadership
  • Work on one of Europe's most interesting regulatory portfolios: MiCA CASP + PI already granted, with UK, EU, and Jersey applications in the pipeline
  • Your drafting goes straight to regulators — your impact is real and visible
  • Self-funded, stable company without investor pressure
  • Medical insurance, L&D budget, performance based financial bonus, english classes, regular team-building activities
  • Fintech + crypto domain — technically and legally complex, always evolving
  • A growing Global Compliance Team where senior expertise is trusted and heard

Interview Process

  1. HR Interview (30 min) — motivation, availability, English communication, relevant ownership
  2. Technical interview with the Global Chief of Compliance (60 min) — licensing experience, regulatory reasoning, drafting depth, and judgement
  3. Reference check

Paybis is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants who take ownership seriously, write documents regulators can actually rely on, and want to grow in a fast-moving fintech environment.
