Technical Project Planner

Redwire Defense Tech Riga

We are looking for a Technical Project Planner who will translate product strategy and engineering objectives into realistic, resource-backed delivery plans. The role focuses on planning and forecasting project schedules, engineering capacity, resource utilization, and staffing needs, while identifying delivery risks and capacity constraints early. It provides transparency across product development activities, ensuring commitments are aligned with available resources and enabling management and stakeholders to make informed decisions. The role does not involve managing projects or engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Scheduling
  • Translate product roadmaps, strategic initiatives, and development requests into detailed project plans, schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Create and maintain integrated schedules across Hardware, Software, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Design, Test & Validation, and Production Engineering activities.
  • Break down high-level roadmaps into resource-loaded execution plans with sufficient granularity to support forecasting and decision-making.
  • Continuously update schedules based on actual progress, changing priorities, scope changes, and emerging risks.
  • Identify critical paths, dependencies, schedule conflicts, and milestone slippages.
  • Ensure project plans realistically reflect available engineering resources and organizational priorities.
Capacity Planning & Forecasting
  • Maintain a resource-loaded view of all engineering projects, product initiatives, and strategic activities.
  • Develop and maintain capacity models for engineering teams and key competencies.
  • Monitor engineering utilization and identify overloaded teams, underutilized resources, and emerging capability gaps.
  • Quantify the impact of new projects, scope changes, urgent customer requests, and shifting priorities on existing commitments.
  • Forecast project completion dates based on resource availability, engineering estimates, historical performance data, and known constraints.
  • Develop hiring forecasts and support workforce planning activities based on projected project demand.
  • Create alternative scheduling and staffing scenarios to support management decision-making.
  • Highlight situations where planned commitments exceed available capacity and provide recommendations for mitigation.
Portfolio Visibility & Prioritization Support
  • Maintain a consolidated view of all engineering activities and project commitments.
  • Provide visibility into competing priorities, resource conflicts, shared dependencies, and portfolio risks.
  • Create dashboards and reporting that enable stakeholders to understand engineering workload and delivery confidence.
  • Support roadmap reviews and prioritization discussions with objective, data-driven analysis.
  • Ensure long-term planning is visible, actionable, and understandable across all stakeholder groups.
  • Drive transparency around trade-offs between scope, schedule, staffing, and delivery commitments.
Progress Tracking, Estimation & Risk Management
  • Track planned versus actual progress across projects and engineering teams.
  • Review effort estimates, assumptions, dependencies, and delivery forecasts with technical teams.
  • Identify schedule risks, bottlenecks, single points of failure, and resource constraints.
  • Assess the impact of project delays, scope changes, and priority shifts.
  • Monitor forecast accuracy and recommend improvements to planning processes.
  • Utilize historical project data and lessons learned to improve estimation quality and delivery predictability.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain planning data, schedules, dashboards, and forecasting tools.
  • Provide regular reporting on project progress, engineering capacity, resource utilization, and delivery forecasts.
  • Support management with data-driven recommendations regarding prioritization, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Establish and continuously improve planning methodologies, reporting standards, and forecasting practices.
  • Improve consistency, accuracy, and transparency of planning processes across engineering teams.
  • Promote a culture of evidence-based planning and realistic scheduling.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or analytical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in project planning, engineering planning, resource planning, portfolio planning, operations planning, or a similar analytical role.
  • Experience developing and maintaining project schedules, delivery forecasts, milestones, dependencies, and execution plans.
